| Thallus thin, plane, continuous or dispersed-verrucose to verruculose, yellowish white to whitish grey, epruinose. Soredia absent. Prothallus not visible. Apothecia sessile when immature, becoming constricted at the base, 0.5–1.2 mm diam.; disc pale red-brown to orange-brown, epruinose; margin concolorous with the thallus, thin to thick, prominent, entire to flexuose. Cortex hyaline, inspersed with small crystals, 15–20 µm thick laterally, and 20–25 µm thick basally. Amphithecium with large crystals insoluble in KOH (pulicaris-type). Parathecium hyaline, c. 10 µm thick, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH. Epihymenium dark brown to dark red-brown, with numerous small crystals soluble in KOH, (pulicaris-type), c. 15 µm thick. Hymenium, subhymenium and hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses sparingly branched and slightly thickened apically. Ascospores ellipsoidal, 9.5–12.5 × 5.0–7.0 µm. CHEMISTRY: Thallus and apothecial margin K+ yellow, C+ orange, Pd+ orange to reddish; containing arthothelin (major), atranorin (major), pannarin (major), chloroatranorin (minor), 2,4-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor), 4,5-dichloronorlichexanthone (minor) and thiophanic acid (minor). |  |
